Happy Valentine’s Day! A day the world has set aside to celebrate love. Now of course I know the history of this day, but can we just celebrate LOVE? *pause for effect*
Now that I got that out of the way. I wanted to reflect on my Love! God! Without Him I can not fully appreciate this thing called love. 2017 was a year that I experienced God as FATHER. It took for my natural father to have a massive stroke and not be able to speak for me to have to solely depend on God to lead and guide me. I was without the authority in my life for the first time since birth and I never felt so lost.
God in His infinite wisdom used this time to LOVE me and I must admit His love trumps (no pun intended *insert throw up emoji face*) all other loves. God was patient with me, His love affirmed me when I felt less than capable of making sound decisions. His love arrested me and wouldn’t let me go. His love corrected me when I let my temper react in a way that didn’t please Him. His love cleansed me. His love comforted me when no one else could. His love provided me with safety from this mean world. His love was and is all that I need.
What is so amazing about God’s love is that He knows we need the human touch and so He has provided me with people who were made in His image to share love with. When Johnie B. Hicks, III. asked me to be his wife I knew God loved me. He went to great lengths to make sure I would experience a sacred love with a man who loved Him and me. Today I celebrate my husband, my gift from God. Johnie is my gentle giant. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches he is tall but he has a away of calming me down and letting me know that I have a safe place to land. He is strong yet caring. He is wise yet can be silly just to make me laugh. He is thoughtful which helps me to do the same. His love has taught me that love doesn’t have to hurt. Ain’t God Good! Happy Valentine’s Day Honey!
God didn’t stop there He allowed me to know the unconditional love from a child provides. My daughter Damari Talia Curry- Holloway loves me no matter what. I know I have not been a perfect mother and there are probably times she wants more from me, than I give her, but her love for her mommy is unfailing. Happy Valentine’s Day Damari! I was also blessed with a bonus daughter Jia Alani Hicks who is always respectful, sweet and caring. Her love has taught me that love comes in all packages. Happy Valentine’s Day Jia!
I am surrounded by love from my parents and close friends, my community and the students that I teach. I am grateful that I am loved and appreciated because I recognize that I can’t fully appreciate or comprehend LOVE without LOVE, God!
As we recognize and celebrate love today I encourage you to reflect on the one who is LOVE and the amazing love He has sought fit to bless you with. DO NOT get caught up in the hype instead appreciate the love that surrounds you.
It may be your spouse, your kids, your parents, your co- workers, your friends, your church family. Whomever it is appreciate them.
I Love You and again Happy Valentine’s Day!
